Type & JB are a unique force in underground Soul music. They push and pull at classical structures, dropping club thumpers or subtle ballads with equal ease, writing true stories of love and hope - all future classics in the best progressive tradition.
Rolling into this year riding sizeable waves generated by their first official release (“The P.L.” on Root Elevation Recordings in October 2006), which received placements in many end-of-year charts and topped a few notable ones – it’s an exiting time for the young duo.
Blessed with a voice like the darkest mahogany, a keen ear for melody and without doubt Bristol’s freshest emerging Soul artist, JB doesn’t deal in the hype, fads, dubious morals or overblown moaning and groaning of the modern R&B scene. He cares about people, he cares about this music and he cares about making a career based on creativity and integrity - hard to believe such talent and maturity can exist in an artist with still only 16 years on this planet (!). His live performances are a joy to witness: what more could you want from a modern soul singer?
Type plays drums. Heavy, soulful, melodic, tough-as-you-like breaks from the future, the past and taking in everything in-between. Surrounded by music from an early age, pretty much all his life he’s been digging, listening, writing, sampling, shedding and arranging. 2007 and he’s ready to let loose the sound he’s honed over the years in his various roles as DJ, producer, band-leader, engineer and performer. A firm fixture on the South West live scene, he’s cut his teeth with some of the most innovative acts in the region and his dedication to the craft looks set to push future music further than it’s ever been before.
They can already count some of the heaviest DJs in the scene as supporters (see quotes below) and with an E.P. forthcoming and album underway, this year they plan to hit the road and show the world what those in the know are already waiting for.
The live show rolls out as anything from a DJ plus vocalist PA to a full 8-piece band featuring the best of Bristol’s instrumentalists - expect to be touched, inspired and to dance like you never heard Soul music.
