Social Conscience

Social Conscience or 'Soash' is an MC's MC, complex in rhyme schemes, original in subject matter, freestyle skills and devastating punchlines. Born and raised in Devon, was in Hiphop group Altered States and was a regular at Hiphop nights in Devon - winning battles and performing in front of large crowds.

Known for terrorising ciphers with heavyweight punchlines which has kept him in demand, contributing verses to over 10 different official releases over the past three years. An established live MC, he has performed
in many venues across the UK, focussing mainly on the South West.

In 2006, Social moved to Bristol, with long term associate Big Reggae Al, to set about founding alongside
Trz, the Section 8 label. Upon moving here, he instantly linked alot of cats, and soon had a residency
at E-Shed, hosting nights for LeanPeople. Musical and ethical differences of opinion meant that Social soon curtailed his involvement in Section 8 as a label, although he has still since featured on 'Increase the Peace' - alongside Bristol Hiphop Godfather Kelz, Jamaican Sausa's 'Ancient Scriptures' and Balance's 'The Rise of the City' Mixtapes.

As well as an MC, Social also performs spoken word poetry and came runner-up in the Bristol Open House Poetry Slam, which was his first Slam poetry performance, enthralling the judges with his blend of twisted narrative.

A change in location saw Social working with live band - Pressplay, culminating in a Main Stage appearance
at Ashton Court Festival. Social then gained a residency with Bristol Hiphop night Cut and Paste. Living with
producer/promoter DJ Baked, he learned valuable insights into the promotion business, especially within Bristol hiphop, which opened him up to the various resources the scene has.

2007 saw Social crowned as Freestyle champion on two seperate occasions, once at the Trinity Arts Centre, eventually defeating MC's from Gloucester to Bristol, the highlight being a successful tournament at the Supersize Cut and Paste event - which saw him defeat MC's, gaining the props of Life MC (Phi Life Cypher), in front of a fully sold-out crowd, in excess of 1200.

Social has received airplay on the BBC Asian Network, his track - Chat Bout - featuring Wyzeleigh and Trigga Ryder was played by Orrifus Vulgatron of Foreign Beggars, for his show Mic Check. Social has also featured on various pirate radio stations in Bristol and Devon, freestyling with others. He was also featured briefly, on the Politics Show, on BBC1 for the Increase the Peace article.

In a chance meeting whilst working in a call centre,(a dark chapter in his life), Social met C-Froo and through the live scene quickly met Ewan Hoozami. A crew - Mad Method - was assembled, and begun hosting radio shows based at Trinity Arts Centre. These cipher shows translated into live performances, and soon Social was hosting nights which saw the likes of the Anti-Pop Consortium pass through.

Social has just recorded 2 tracks for Balance's new project, a track for Krazy's Prototype mixtape, a track with Trigga Ryder which is on Trigganometry, Trigga's latest CD and is also going to be featured on the Fuck You DVD, with the best of Bristol's MC's.

He is due to perform on the Pyramid Stage at this year's Brizzolfest, on Sunday the 21st September - alongside Mad Method.

Social is now working on his first full length release with Bristol super-producer Sobr, and is looking to release this within 6 months, to capitalise on the web buzz he has managed to accumulate, with over 27000 plays on his reverbnation profile, essentially a collection of demo's.
